Levy Frauenfelder has become the 20th different Dutch player to win a PDC Challenge Tour event, defeating England's Henry Coates 5-3 in the final of Event 11 on Friday. The victory marks Frauenfelder's maiden title on the circuit and adds another name to a growing list of Dutch winners that underscores the nation's remarkable depth in darts.
The Challenge Tour, a key proving ground for players without a Tour Card, has long been a launchpad for Dutch talent. Christian Kist and Berry van Peer lead the all-time winners' list with five titles each, followed by Wesley Plaisier on four. Danny van Trijp, Jan Dekker, and Jurjen van der Velde have each collected three titles, while Alexander Merkx and Ron Meulenkamp have multiple wins. Frauenfelder's win continues a trend of success spread across a wide group of players rather than concentrated at the top.
With two more events scheduled for Saturday and one on Sunday, the Challenge Tour season moves on quickly. By the end of the 24-event campaign, the top two players in the Order of Merit will earn a PDC Tour Card for the next two years, the top three will qualify for the World Championship, and the overall winner will book a place at the Grand Slam of Darts.
