Michael van Gerwen did not just return to the winner's circle at Players Championship 15 in Leicester, he also produced the standout statistical performance of the day by a huge margin. The Dutchman topped the highest averages list with a sensational 122.34, putting clear distance between himself and the rest of the field. It came during his semi-final whitewash win over Martin Schindler, before Van Gerwen went on to beat Dirk van Duijvenbode 8-5 in the final and claim the title.
Schindler was next on the list with a 113.79, underlining the German's own strong day before running into Van Gerwen at full force in the last four. Niko Springer completed the top three with a 112.48, giving Germany two of the three highest averages recorded at PC15. Behind the top three, Chris Dobey and Richard Veenstra produced one of the most striking statistical quirks of the day. Dobey averaged 110.44, with Veenstra just behind on 110.43, a margin of only 0.01.
Dobey also appeared again later in the top 15 with a 108.72, making him one of several players to record multiple big averages during the event. Schindler was another repeat name on the list, adding 108.78 and 105.90 to his earlier 113.79. Gabriel Clemens also made the leader board with 107.12, adding to the strong German presence among the day's best statistical performances. Joe Cullen posted a 107.11, while Kim Huybrechts continued his recent run of eye-catching numbers with a 107.05. Stephen Bunting was also above the 106 mark, recording 106.85.
Van Gerwen appeared for a second time with a 106.57, while Kevin Doets, winner of Players Championship 13, posted 106.09. Cristo Reyes rounded out the top 15 with a 105.74. But the day belonged emphatically to Van Gerwen. A 122.34 average would have stood out in any ProTour event, and at PC15 it became the defining number of a title-winning performance in Leicester.
