Nathan Aspinall has admitted that his iconic walk-on song, Mr Brightside by The Killers, “grates on me” and that he plans to change it to Lose Yourself by Eminem in his final year on tour. Speaking on the Double Tops Podcast, the two-time major champion and regular Premier League Darts participant joked that he had “kept him in the top 40 for the last 10 years” – referring to the song’s enduring chart presence – but confessed: “I might be called Nathan Aspinall, but I walk down the street and, oh, Mr. Brightside. It grates on me. Everyone absolutely loves it and it’s part of the darts now.”

Aspinall acknowledged that certain walk-on songs are iconic and cannot be changed, naming Michael van Gerwen, Phil Taylor, Raymond van Barneveld, Gary Anderson, and Adrian Lewis as examples. However, he revealed his own plan: “I can’t change it until it’s my final year, and I will change it to Lose Yourself. Yeah, a million percent.” He has already experimented with the Eminem track earlier this year en route to winning the German Darts Grand Prix, using it ahead of his semi-final clash against Kevin Doets, and also last year in the first round of the German Darts Championship during a 6-3 victory over Maximilian Czerwinski.

The conversation also turned to Aspinall’s overall motivation in darts, with the 34-year-old stating bluntly: “I don’t care about trophies. I do this game because it’s my job and I don’t ever want my kids or me to have to ever worry about money.” He added: “Honest to god, I couldn’t care less about the trophies. Of course, I want to win tournaments and I’ll be buzzing to add another trophy to my trophy cabinet. But, for me, it’s very much a case of trying to make as much money as I possibly can over the next 10 years.”
