Vicky Pruim claimed her first ever PDC Women's Series title on Sunday at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester, defeating Gemma Hayter 5-2 in the final of Event 12. Hayter had earlier stunned Beau Greaves in the quarter-finals, but could not repeat that form in the final, with Pruim taking full advantage to seal a landmark victory.
Pruim's path to the title saw her overcome Lauryn Salter, Karolina Ratajska — who reached the final in the previous event — and Paige Pauling, avoiding the so-called 'big names' of Greaves, Fallon Sherrock and Lisa Ashton. Hayter, meanwhile, defeated Kirsi Viinikainen, Greaves and Deta Hedman before falling to Pruim.
Earlier in the day, Deta Hedman won Event 11, defeating Kirsi Viinikainen 5-3 in the final. Greaves' run in that event ended in the quarter-finals, losing 5-4 to Rhian O'Sullivan despite averaging close to 90. O'Sullivan then lost to Hedman in the next round. Fallon Sherrock lost to Lisa Ashton in the last 16 of Event 11, while Hedman defeated Ashton to reach the semi-finals.
Greaves, who has now won 55 Women's Series titles in all, saw her hopes of a clean sweep dashed by O'Sullivan in Event 11 and by Hayter in Event 12. She had beaten Ashton again in the last 16 of Event 12 before losing to Hayter. Greaves heads onto the ProTour on Monday after a dominant but not entirely perfect Sunday by her standards.
