Luke Humphries won his second ProTour title of the year with an 8-4 victory over Jermaine Wattimena in the 17th round of the Players Championship in Leicester. The 31-year-old world number two averaged 104.89 in the final, his sixth ton-plus average of the tournament, as he roared back from 2-0 down to defeat the Dutchman.
Wattimena, a beaten finalist earlier in the year at Players Championship 12, took an early lead but Humphries dominated the rest of the match. The Englishman's run to the final included a quarter-final win over in-form Wessel Nijman, 6-3, and a 7-3 semi-final victory against Danny Noppert.
"There's been moments this year when it hasn't gone my way. But when it clicks for me I am one of the best players in the world," Humphries told PDC Darts. "It sets the standard for myself and it's up to me to provide that a lot more than I do."
In the other quarter-finals, Danny Noppert edged Rob Owen 6-5, Kevin Doets beat Dirk van Duijvenbode 6-4, and Jermaine Wattimena defeated Stephen Bunting 6-3. The semi-finals saw Humphries beat Noppert 7-3 and Wattimena overcome Doets 7-2. There are 34 Players Championship events across the year, with the finals held in Minehead in November.
