“HE IS QUITE A RUDE LITTLE BOY” – VINCENT VAN DER VOORT JOKES ABOUT NEW GRANDSON MILO

Former PDC star Vincent van der Voort has become a grandfather for the first time, with his son Kevin and Kevin’s partner welcoming a baby boy named Milo van der Voort on Monday, 18 May. The 50-year-old Dutchman shared the news on the latest episode of Darts Draait Door, where presenter Damian Vlottes greeted him with a laugh: “Welcome to a new episode, grandad.” Van der Voort replied: “Yes, yes, I became a grandfather this morning. Everything went well. Wonderful, of course, lovely to experience.”

Van der Voort, who officially ended his professional career at the start of 2024 due to ongoing health problems, admitted the milestone made him proud, particularly seeing his son become a father. “That obviously makes me proud,” he said. “It is still special when your son suddenly becomes a father himself.” Kevin van der Voort also spent time in darts, meaning the family name has already carried beyond Vincent’s own career on the oche.

True to form, Van der Voort could not resist a joke about the newborn. “He is quite a rude little boy,” he said of Milo. “First of all, he wakes me up. Secondly, he just does not respond to anything. He really does whatever he feels like. There is still work to be done.” Behind the humour, Van der Voort also revealed the family had felt some tension before the birth, as Milo arrived a week after the expected due date. “That is, of course, the most important thing,” he said of mother and baby both being healthy. “Now and then you do think about everything that could go wrong. Especially when someone goes overdue, you are just happy that in the end everything goes well.”

Even the late arrival gave Van der Voort room for one more line. “It is clearly my son’s child,” he laughed. “If he arrives late, then you know enough.” Van der Voort was known throughout his playing career for his pace, blunt honesty and sharp wit, traits that have followed him into his post-playing life where he remains a candid Dutch voice around the sport.
