Mitchell Lawrie is playing soft-tip darts this weekend, with the 15-year-old prodigy heading over to Tokyo to play in the latest edition of The World, the soft-tip tour over in Asia, which has been dominated in the past by Boris Krcmar, for instance. And Lawrie produced perfection multiple times.
It was another well-known name who lost out to Lawrie in the final, as Haruki Muramatsu finished as runner-up to the Scottish prodigy, who went over this weekend with Kaya Baysal, who is now on the Development Tour. Lawrie will soon make his PDC debut at the turn of next year with Q-School planned.
While not putting wild expectations on the 15-year-old, given he reached the Lakeside final on debut and has been so dominant, some see him as the next Luke Littler-type figure in the game and one who, given their close ages, could trouble 'The Nuke' when he eventually makes it onto the tour.
Lawrie claimed $10,000 for his weekend's work, and along the way, he hit a perfect leg in cricket during the round robin. He hit two White Horses (T19, T18, T20) and T17, T16, and T15 and then the bull, which accounts for either outside or inside as 50, so he hit two of those to win it with a perfect leg.
He has then completed a nine-dart finish today in the semi-finals against Yeh Pin Feng. He went treble 20, treble 19, and treble 18. Albeit his dart fell out, it still counts, and he hit treble 17, treble 16 and treble 15 before hitting treble 16, bull, bull to claim it. Truly sensational from Lawrie, who is playing his first soft-tip tournament and has not only won it but also made a statement.
