Gian van Veen has revealed that he was prohibited from filming behind-the-scenes content at the recent Players Championship events in Den Bosch, despite his hopes of continuing the vlogging routine that has become a staple of his tournament schedule. The Dutchman, who combines his playing career with filming his whereabouts around the world, had been competing on home soil at the World Series of Darts Finals, where he rediscovered his best form by reaching the semi-finals. There, eventual winner Ross Smith took him down 11-8 before defeating Gerwyn Price to secure a second major title.
Van Veen played in all of the World Series of Darts events in 2026 after cementing his name among the best players in the world thanks to a brilliant end to the 2025 campaign. He was not able to produce the best performances, reaching the final in Bahrain and semi-finals in New York but failing to make it past the quarter-finals in any of the other events. Like he has been doing with all of the World Series events, 'The Giant' has been vlogging short videos of what he has been doing, providing entertainment to his fans.
After the World Series of Darts Finals, van Veen stayed on home turf and opted to compete in Players Championship 29. His floor form has been patchy this year, but this time around he managed to produce some brilliant displays en route to the final where he fell at the final hurdle against Cameron Menzies, and could not clinch his third PDC ranking title. In his latest vlog, van Veen is about to drive from Andel in North Brabant to Den Bosch to compete in the tournament, but had some disappointing news for his followers to hear. "I know you asked me to show some behind-the-scenes footage of the Players Championship," he said. "But unfortunately, I have to disappoint you. It is not allowed. The PDC association prohibits it. There is little I can do about that. The next shot will presumably be me back home and telling you about how my matches went."
He was right. "I wasn't allowed to film anything," van Veen confirmed. "And when I got home, after losing the final, I didn't feel like recording anything else. I grabbed something to eat and went to bed early." He stated his reasoning behind pulling out of PC 30. "I withdrew, because I have already qualified for the Players Championship Finals anyway." Van Veen will compete at the Players Championship Finals for the fifth time, but has never made it past the second round. He will hope his fortunes change in Minehead later this year.
