Scott Williams has addressed his striking outburst after losing the final of Players Championship 30 in Den Bosch, where he threw his darts to the floor following an 8-7 defeat to Karel Sedlacek. The Englishman stressed that his frustration was absolutely not aimed at the Czech, who beat him in a deciding 15th leg.
Williams, a former World Championship semi-finalist, struggled to hide his disappointment afterwards and tossed his darts down in frustration. He then took to TikTok to explain the incident, beginning by congratulating his opponent. "Firstly, let me congratulate Karel on the win... unbelievable bloke. Absolutely deserves the win," said Williams. "I am not putting that against him in any way, shape or form. I reacted that way because I was disappointed in myself."
Williams rued the chances he failed to take in the final. "I was annoyed I missed darts at double, darts at big numbers. I was really f****** angry about that," he said. The Englishman plans to address his reaction in person the next time he meets Sedlacek. "If you didn't see, I wasn't disrespecting Karel. I will speak to Karel when I next see him, apologise and wish him the best."
Williams also had a clear message for those who criticised him for the outburst. "But for you guys watching going, 'Oh, Scott acted like a p****', I just earned £10,000 from that. Awesome." Still, the dominant feeling was frustration over what had been possible financially and for his world ranking. "I just missed darts to potentially earn £15,000 – £5,000 more which would secure me a better place in the world rankings."
