James Wade didn't mince words after his latest victory, claiming opponent Gian van Veen was "pretty poor" and that he "bashed him up" in a one-sided contest.
In a video interview, Wade also insisted his best is still ahead, saying, "I've got loads more gears to go." The win adds to a dramatic day of darts that saw a fly interrupt play, a spider attempt to join the action, and Gerwyn Price snatch a win after Jonny Clayton missed three match darts.
Other highlights included Nathan Aspinall's 112 checkout being interrupted by a fly, Ryan Joyce breaking Aspinall with a superb 153 finish, and Luke Humphries producing a stunning 10-dart break. Gary Anderson endured a 'diabolical' start, missing a double and suffering two bounce-outs, while Ryan Searle pinned a magnificent 167 finish on the bull.
Off the oche, Phil Taylor discussed coming out of retirement and reuniting with Adrian Lewis, and Barry Hearn commented that Luke Littler needs to show people boos won't affect his game. Mark Webster also previewed the Price vs Clayton clash, noting 'more at stake for Jonny'.
