German darts professional Kai Gotthardt has suffered a broken hand in an unfortunate accident and has undergone surgery, his partner announced on Instagram. The operation took place earlier today, Friday. For the 31-year-old, recovery is now the immediate priority.
The injury has an immediate impact on Gotthardt's tournament schedule. He must withdraw from Players Championship 31 and 32, which will be held in Den Bosch, Netherlands, on 28 and 29 October. It is not yet known when he will be able to return to the oche.
"Health comes first!" reads the Instagram post in which Gotthardt's partner made the news public. She explained that her "better half" had broken his hand in an unfortunate accident. Following the operation, which has already taken place, Gotthardt must now focus on recovering. Once he is fit again, he will get back in touch with his fans.
The German will therefore miss at least the two upcoming floor tournaments in Den Bosch. The final two Players Championship events of the season are scheduled for 4 and 5 November in Leicester. At this stage, it is still impossible to say whether Gotthardt will be fit to compete by then.
For now, the German professional's full focus is on his recovery. He will now look to complete a swift recovery and get back to the oche as quick as possible.
