FROM DROGBA FAN TO DARTS INSPIRATION: DAVID MUNYUA'S JOURNEY FROM STAMFORD BRIDGE TO ALLY PALLY

Kenyan darts player David Munyua has opened up about his remarkable journey from a football-loving fan to an inspiration for aspiring athletes, reflecting on his historic 2026 PDC World Darts Championship run and a pivotal visit to Chelsea's Stamford Bridge. Munyua made headlines at Alexandra Palace by becoming the first Kenyan to win a match at the tournament, but his passion for football remains a driving force behind his story.

During his time in the UK, Munyua visited Stamford Bridge, an experience he described as "a dream come true." He told Oche180, "When we were growing up, even now, it's very big to not only just appear, just to watch the game on TV. That's usually a big deal." He emphasized the broader impact of his visit, noting, "I think it inspired a lot of people as well... and I'm happy about that," adding that it motivated others to associate themselves with sport, whether football, darts, or other disciplines.

Munyua cited Didier Drogba as a major early inspiration, recalling, "He was a huge inspiration, especially when we were young. Everybody would nickname themselves Didier Drogba and this really pushed us in the field. And also we loved watching him play." Now, Munyua finds himself in a similar role model position, explaining that his Stamford Bridge trip showed Kenyan youth that "It's possible. We can also be part of this." He embraced this shift, stating, "Now that is pushing me to do my best. It's amazing for me, I love it."

With Chelsea still competing domestically, Munyua expressed interest in returning to watch them at Wembley, saying, "Why not? I would love to, of course." He noted he'll be in the UK this week participating in Pairs and hopes something might "pop up" regarding Chelsea's schedule. Even amid a busy darts calendar, the connection to football remains a key part of his narrative as he continues to inspire from the oche.
