Luke Littler made an unexpected appearance at Players Championship 10 in Wigan on Tuesday, but not to compete. The 19-year-old, who has yet to feature in a single Players Championship event this season and skipped both tournaments across the latest Pro Tour double header, was there for a different reason: to pick up penguin hats from fellow professional Justin Hood. Littler posted on Instagram, "Quick trip to pro tour not for darts, for these beauty's," showing three of the hats in his car.
The moment highlights the growing role of personality and branding in darts. Hood, nicknamed 'Happy Feet', recently released a limited batch of the hats that sold out quickly, with a fresh drop earlier this week drawing immediate attention. Hood is enjoying a strong Pro Tour run, having reached the final of a Players Championship event on Monday before losing to Chris Dobey, with wins over Ryan Meikle and Mensur Suljovic boosting his rankings. However, he revealed changes are coming: "We've got stuff going on with my nickname that's got to be changed. So, we're going through all of that now. Happy Feet has got to go unfortunately, so we are sorting a new one out now. We haven't settled on anything yet."
Littler's selective schedule remains a talking point, with 24 Players Championship events still to play. His absence continues to attract attention, and this brief visit without throwing a dart has only added to the conversation, underscoring his presence in the sport even when not playing.
