JOHN O'SHEA TARGETS INTERNATIONAL PAIRS DEFENSE WITH IRELAND, HAILS JOSH ROCK AS PRE-LITTLER 'HOTTEST PROPERTY'

John O'Shea is back in Portsmouth with Ireland to defend his International Pairs title, teaming up again with Conor Heneghan from April 20 to 25 at the Modus Live Lounge. "Anything I've ever won, I want to defend," O'Shea stated, emphasizing his competitive drive. The Irishman, nicknamed 'The Joker', has adjusted his practice routine, focusing on quality over quantity, with sessions like a recent one-hour-and-ten-minute throw. After losing his Tour Card at Q-School, O'Shea has changed his grip and release, viewing this week as a test for his revamped game.

O'Shea highlighted the unpredictable nature of pairs darts, noting that even top players don't always click together, with success often hinging on one player scoring and the other finishing. He believes this year's field is particularly tough, with big names from various countries, including seasoned players and emerging talents, though he refuses to name favorites. At home, his son Kenneth is cheering for the Kenyan boys because he loves Peter Wachiuri. O'Shea also mused about the possibility of a combined nine-darter with Heneghan, recalling that Conor is known for nine-darters and O'Shea hit one himself a few weeks ago in an ADC event.

Beyond his own ambitions, O'Shea plays a key role in Josh Rock's career, having known him since he was very young and traveling to tournaments together. "I treat him like one of my own sons," O'Shea said, adding that Rock is now ranked world number eight. Despite an up-and-down Premier League campaign, O'Shea insists Rock belongs at the top level, citing his "unbelievable" grouping and natural ability. "Before Luke Littler came onto the scene, Josh was the hottest property in world darts," O'Shea claimed, predicting Rock can average 95 to 105 regularly and has even better performances to come. He acknowledged that Rock has let big chances slip, such as at the UK Open and a Grand Slam match against James Wade, but remains optimistic about his future.
