Two-time world champion Adrian Lewis has opened up about the 'daunting' prospect of returning to the PDC Tour, citing the relentless travel and fast food lifestyle as major deterrents. Lewis, who stepped away from professional darts in 2023 to focus on family — his wife was diagnosed with an incurable kidney disease, while his son has autism and ADHD — has since shed three stone and embraced a healthier lifestyle. However, the thought of falling back into old habits gives him pause.
“It would be another lifestyle change because you are on the road all the time, getting fast food, which I don’t think anybody really enjoys that much,” Lewis told Darts World. “But it’s something you have got to do. It’s just that side of things, really, compared to now where I am eating healthy and have changed my life. It’s back to that way, really, which is a bit daunting.”
The time away from home also weighs on his decision. “My negative would be being away from home five days a week. Apart from that, everything else is a positive, so I can’t really dwell on that because I have had a good career so far and it can continue that way.”
Despite the challenges, Lewis remains ambitious. He hinted at a possible return, with his ultimate goal being a third world title. “I’ve never been motivated by the money. It would be to come back and win a third world title. If I won that, then I think I would retire and just say that is me done, one big one. ... Do I think I have got another one? I do, yeah. If I didn’t think that, I wouldn’t entertain going back.”
Lewis, who opted not to play in Q-School at the start of the year, expects to make a final decision by November. “Short term goals, I don’t think I will make the Matchplay because I am already six months behind. ... There is a good chance I make the Worlds. There are the Grand Slam qualifiers, which I think I would have a good chance in qualifying for one of them. I reckon I would know by November time.”
