Michael van Gerwen, Raymond van Barneveld and Chris Dobey all fell at the quarter-final stage of Players Championship 30, as a vital day in the hunt for Players Championship qualification for Minehead unfolded on Wednesday 23 September.
The 30th event of the campaign got underway at 12pm, with Cameron Menzies aiming for back-to-back titles after his victory at Players Championship 29, where he defeated home hero Gian van Veen in Den Bosch. Van Gerwen headlined the field, while Michael Smith, Peter Wright, Josh Rock and Nathan Aspinall all remain in need of help in their Minehead hunt.
The quarter-final exits of Van Gerwen, Van Barneveld and Dobey shook up the latter stages of a day carrying significant implications for the Players Championship Order of Merit, with Gary Anderson and Michael Smith facing a Minehead fight and on the verge of leaving the top 64, while Nathan Aspinall and Josh Rock are currently out of contention.
The Minehead qualification battle has been further complicated by a series of withdrawals, with Gerwyn Price and James Wade joining Luke Littler in skipping the tournaments in Den Bosch.
