NATHAN ASPINALL REDISCOVERS JOY WITH GERMAN DARTS GRAND PRIX TRIUMPH AFTER MENTAL BATTLE

Nathan Aspinall has claimed his first title of 2026 and reignited his passion for darts with an 8-5 victory over Danny Noppert in the final of the German Darts Grand Prix in Munich. The Englishman, who admitted to struggling with motivation and not enjoying the game recently, described the win as a turning point, stating, "It's hard, you know, turning up week in, week out and getting beaten in the second round, it's very tough. But nights like tonight are why I play this game. I absolutely love it." Aspinall last won a tournament in September and had endured a run of disappointing results, but he credited hard work behind the scenes, including sessions with his sports psychologist, for the breakthrough.

The victory marks Aspinall's fourth European Tour title in twelve months, highlighting his prowess on this circuit. He explained that mastering the European Tour's demanding schedule—with long days, breaks between matches, and travel—has been key, saying, "I found something last year, and I did that again today, and it paid dividends." At 34, Aspinall acknowledged the physical and mental strain, noting older competitors like Andrew Gilding and Jonny Clayton, but used it as fuel, telling himself, "You're not that old yet, Nathan, come on, get some motivation," and even relying on a can of Red Bull to boost energy levels.

Aspirall's renewed drive was evident as he looked ahead, expressing eagerness to play next week. He also praised the fantastic support from fans in Munich, which helped him rediscover the adrenaline and tension that define his game. While realistic that one weekend doesn't make a perfect season, he sees this win as a mental boost, concluding, "The motivation and hunger that tonight's win has given me is unbelievable." For his rivals, a rejuvenated Aspinall poses a significant threat, capable of winning any tournament.
