Samuel Caswell, an electrician from Tamworth in the Midlands, is preparing for his biggest darts stage yet after earning a spot at the World Darts Open in Estonia this weekend. Caswell secured his place following a stunning exhibition match victory over world champion Luke Littler in Lichfield, a result that quickly gained traction on social media. "I'm quite nervous to be fair," Caswell admitted. "I've never done anything on this sort of scale."
The local league player described beating Littler as "something that I'll cherish for the rest of my life," adding, "Not many people can say they beat the world champion." The adrenaline from the win kept him awake until 2 a.m. that same night. Caswell credited social media and his sponsors for helping propel him forward, saying, "It all blew up a little bit... it's great to see that I've been given this chance... to progress to the next stage that I want to be at in my career."
Littler himself offered encouragement after the match, telling Caswell, "You can throw a good dart, you've got the confidence." However, balancing his darts ambitions with his full-time job as an electrician presents a challenge. "After a long day's hard work it doesn't half take it out of you," Caswell noted.
The winner of the Estonia event is expected to take home more than £5,000 in prize money. Already looking ahead, Caswell has lined up another competition in Budapest in the coming weeks as he continues his darting journey.
