German home hero Martin Schindler produced a sublime performance to thrash Clayton 6-1, racing to a 3-0 lead with breaks on double 10 and double eight for a 12-darter, then extending to 4-0 on double 20 and breaking again with a 74 checkout. Michael van Gerwen advanced the hard way, beating Jermaine Wattimena 6-5 in a decider after Wattimena led 5-4 on double four; Wattimena missed double 20 for a 100 checkout, and Van Gerwen returned to pin double four. Nathan Aspinall saw off James Wade 6-3, racing to a 4-1 lead with a 90 checkout for a 12-darter and finishing with a 150 checkout, while Danny Noppert beat Niko Springer 6-4 and Krzysztof Ratajski defeated Joe Cullen 6-2 in the session's opening games.
