STEPHEN BUNTING INVITED TO PLAY DARTS WITH PROMOTED PREMIER LEAGUE CLUB COVENTRY CITY

Stephen Bunting has received a notable invitation from Coventry City. The newly crowned Championship champions and newly promoted side to the Premier League want to host the English darter this weekend to play a game of darts with the squad during the promotion celebrations.

Coventry City sealed the title with two matches to spare and will return to England’s top flight for the first time since 2001. Bunting confirmed to talkSPORT that Coventry had reached out to him and that he is welcome on Sunday. “Coventry City have been in touch as well, they want me to go down on Sunday and have a game with some of the players which would be interesting and get them ready for the Premier League next year.”

The fact that a football club is inviting a top darter says a lot about darts’ growing popularity, according to Bunting. “I did recently meet Jurgen Klopp and a few of the legends, so it's nice to have been able to do that now that Darts is more high profile, it's led me to that position. Who knows who's going to be there.”

Coventry City’s invitation does not appear to have come out of nowhere. According to Bunting, his well-known walk-on track Titanium has everything to do with it. “They were on the team bus and they were doing the Titanium and the whole bus was singing it, so I think that's where that's come about.” The track has been inseparable from Bunting for years and often sets the tone in darts arenas.

Bunting expects it to be a special afternoon, partly because big names often turn up at Coventry City events. “Hopefully they can see some great darts. I know a few of the boxers have been there over the last few years. I think Dion Dublin always makes an appearance every now and again, so it'll be great to see some of the celebs turn up and obviously appreciate the darts.” He added: “It'd be great to go down and see some of the lads and have a game of darts with them and congratulate them all because it's such an achievement what they've done, getting into the Premier League and now the big job for them is to stay in it.”
